**** RAMUSED By Olly Koenders Australia **** For all KickStarts & 680x0's ****
Please include this file with RamUsed when distributing as the program is
without built-in instructions and may prove difficult for some to decipher
its usage.
Simple little prog to use. Run or Runback from CLI or use its icon from
WBench. You'll see 3 gadgets and 4 portals (I call 'em portals as I don't
know any other name for 'em).
**** GADGETS ****
"GO AWAY" means just that - click this to quit.
"AVL MEM" displays all available memory to the user.
" SET " is a different story that's continued later...
"CHIP:" is all available chip via "AVL MEM".
"FAST:" same as above for Fast Mem.
"ALL :" combination of the two.
**** SET ****
To find out how much memory a program uses:
--> Run/Runback/Launch RamUsed first,
--> Open all necessary drawers/windows/launching applications in readiness
to run the required program,
--> Press "SET" once, some instructional matter appears in the lowest portal,
--> Run the required program/application,
--> Before exiting the program/application, press and hold the CTRL key until
the screen flashes,
--> Quit the program/application or flip its window/screen behind to read the
results of the operation from the "CHIP/FAST/ALL" portals. These values
are now the amounts of memory the program/application used for each type.
New memory values will now have been stored by RamUsed so if you run another
program without exiting the other one and press CTRL, then the results will
show what the NEW running program is using.
If you press "SET" THEN open a window before running the required program,
your values when you press CTRL will reflect the memory that the program
PLUS the window used.
If you manage to press CTRL twice then RamUsed will display "----------" in
all 3 mem portals which means none was used. This will have reset the memory
values to the current amount.
"----------" means you either have none of this memory ("AVL MEM"), none
of this memory was used ("SET"), or if the program/application was run
BEFORE pressing "SET", quitting the program/application THEN pressing CTRL
will cause "----------" to be displayed meaning that memory came back.
To "unset" or stop the CTRL key being read, press "SET" again.
It's not necessary to "unset" before quitting.
The interface is a graphic and will adjust its colours depending on the
kickstart version used. Kickstarts 2.0/above have colours 1+2 reversed
in comparison to 1.0 - 1.3 for unknown reasons.
**** INTERESTING FACT ****
Loading the WorkBench on KS 1.3 only requires a total of 13000 - 14000 bytes
memory compared to the 12 - 13 MEG required to run Windows 95. Ha Ha!!!
